Baseball is a bat-and-ball sport played between two teams of nine players each. The goal of baseball is to score runs by hitting a thrown ball with a bat and touching a series of four markers called bases arranged at the corners of a ninety-foot square, or diamond. Players on one team (the batting team) take turns hitting while the other team (the fielding team) tries to stop them from scoring runs by getting hitters out in any of several ways. A player on the batting team can stop at any of the bases and hope to score on a teammate's hit. The teams switch between batting and fielding whenever the fielding team gets three outs. One turn at bat for each team constitutes an inning; nine innings make up a professional game. The team with the most runs at the end of the game wins. The MLB, Major League Baseball is the professional baseball league of the USA.

This is a diagram of a baseball field. It includes all the bases, infield (also called the diamond) and the outfield. From base to base is 90 feet. The outfield walls differs in each baseball stadium. The measurement is taken from Home Plate.

These are the type of bats used for baseball. In the MLB, only wooden bats are allowed. Meanwhile in college and other amatuer leagues, metal bats are allowed in the games.

This is a picture of MLB player and newly acquired pitcher for the New York Mets, Francisco Rodriguez. In 2008, he led the MLB with 62 saves which was an all-time season record breaking the previous record of 57 set by Bobby Thigpen in 1990. A save is when a pitcher comes into and closes out the game when the his team is up by 5 runs or less.

Here's a video from a Mets game on August 25th 2008. The pitcher on the mound is Mike Pelfrey of the New York Mets.
